B Design

Suitable for challenging hikes in lower mountain ranges and easier treks, including off-trail use and ascents.

Suitable for challenging hikes in lower mountain ranges and off-trail use.

Bunion Last

Bunion-Last: The HANWAG Bunion last was developped for people who suffer from bunions (hallux valgus). It provides more space for the big toe joint.

CD Design

This footwear is designed for the most demanding treks and use on alpine terrain.

Chrome free

Chrome free tanned lining leather, also suitable for people who are allergic to ordinary leather.

Click Clamp

Special clamping eyelets enable different lacing tensions at the fore-/mid foot and around the ankle (2-zone lacing).

Compo Sole

The first fully bio-degradable outsole for alpine and trekking boots; with two different profiles for different areas of application.

D Design

Designed for high-alpine mountaineering in extreme terrain and for ice climbing. Ideal for demanding glaciers, ice and firn.

DC Design

Designed for demanding alpine use and for climbing. Ideal for rocky terrain with sections of ice and snow.

Double Stitched

Double-Stitched: Traditional construction requiring very skilled labour. The upper and the sole unit are stitched together.

Electrical Heating

Electrical Heating (EH): Shoe with electric heating using an interchangeable lithium-ion battery. Heat can be regulated in three stages using a remote control.

"Elevated

An all-round rubber rand, handcrafted around the lower part of the upper. It protects the leather from scree and rocks and significantly increases the boot’s stability and durability.

G1000

A virtually windproof and highly breathable blend of 65 % polyester and 35 % cotton from Swedish outdoor brand Fjällräven. Treatment with Fjällräven Greenland Wax makes it water- repellent and further increases durability.

Ghilly Lacing

Ghilly lacing: Flexible instep lacing with loops. Allows a tight fit, yet guarantees mobility.

Gtx

Patented ultra-lightweight microporous expanded PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) membrane. Durably waterproof and very breathable.

Hybrid Crampon

Suitable for hybrid step-in (semi-automatic) crampons. The rear welt supports a heel lever but there is no front welt (for a front bale). Intended use: general alpine terrain, easier glacier travel and ice climbs.

Ice Grip Sole

A winter sole that provides grip even on black ice. HANWAG IceGrip zones made of a special rubber compound with extremely fine glass particles literally claw into the surface of the ice, rather like sandpaper.

Insulated

Insulated: Additional insulation in the upper and the sole unit.

Lamb Whool

Lambswool: Natural insulation technology. Breathable, dirt-resistant, water-repellant and batericidal.

Leather Lining

Leather lining: Extremely comfortable to wear. Provides great fit and rapid moisture absorption. Dries more slowly than synthetic fabrics. Not recommended for use in wetter regions.

Light Weight

Lightweight: Exceptionally lightweight upper and sole unit construction.

Narrow Last

Narrower shaped last at the forefoot for narrow feet.

Organic Leather

Prime leather made from the hides of bulls raised according to certified organic standards and stringent animal welfare standards. They lead long and healthy lives. This makes their hides thicker and stronger.

PU Laminated

PU-laminated split leather : Split leather with a layer of polyurethane (PU) applied to the surface to protect it from snow, ice, scree and rocks. Ideal for use with snow shoes.

Reduced Seams

Reduced Seams: Fewer seams reduce the risk of rubbing and pressure points. HANWAG uses a special technique, which makes it possible to reduce the number of seams. It might sound simple, but it involves very complex craftsmanship.

100% resoleable

Increased comfort and enhanced air circulation due to a pumping action in the tongue and cushioning while walking.

Snow Shoe

Snowshoe: Waterproof construction and additional insulation, excellent for snowshoe hiking.

Step in Crampon

Fully crampon compatible sole construction. Suitable for automatic step-in crampons (also called rigid step-in/ clip-on/ automatic crampons) for serious mountaineering and ice climbing.

Straight Fit

StraightFit: Last with asymmetric toe box. Provides more space for the toes (by allowing the big toe to remain in a straight position). Particularly comfortable for users with a wider forefoot.

Strap On Crampon

Crampon compatible sole construction for strap-on (flexible/walking) crampons. Designed for general mountaineering activities and easy snow and glacier travel. Not suitable for steep ice and harder mixed climbs.

Terracare

High-quality cowhide from the Heinen Tannery in Germany. Tanning is carried out in accordance with strict environmental guidelines and using CO2 neutral energy.

Thermo Removable

An additional, (mostly) separately laceable thermo inner boot for extra insulation; can be removed and worn separately as a hut shoe.

Vari Volume

Personalised volume adaptation: section of tongue can be removed, additional set of footbeds supplied.

Vibram

Named after the Italian “Vitale Bramani”. Vibram is probably the world’s best known manufacturer of high-end sole units.

Warmth Plus

WarmthPlusLayer: An insulating layer added to the insole. For extra insulation at low temperatures.

Yak Leather

Yak-leather: Exceptionally hard-wearing, yet surprisingly supple. HANWAG only uses robust, hydrophobic Tibetan Yak leather that is 2.2 to 2.6 millimeters thick. Sourced exclusively from the Lhasa Leather Factory in Tibet.
